Code Compliance

The City of Natalia has ordinances that are in place to ensure the safety, health and welfare of the citizens and commercial businesses within the City limits. It takes an effort from all of us to maintain compliance. We are doing our best to work with everyone to assist in the process of compliance and would like it to be a cooperative effort. If compliance is not met then the ordinances that have been adopted have fines attached to them. If you are sent a letter or an officer stops by to give you a warning to become compliant, please make every effort to do so. Here are a few of the ordinances we are enforcing:

Ordinance No. 06-0918 Zoning – this ordinance defines the districts of the City and what can be placed within those districts such as a house, a mobile home, a business or a park. This ordinance also states that no structures including a storage building may be placed on property without prior approval. It sets what setbacks each lot has which determines how far back a structure of any type can sit around the lot. This ordinance also provides for a variance procedure if a person would like to do something that the ordinance does not allow.

Ordinance No. 54 Junk Vehicles – this ordinance defines a junk vehicle as a vehicle that is self-propelled and inoperable; has expired plates; invalid inspection certificate; is wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, or discarded; and has been inoperable for more than forty-five days. It is prohibited for junk vehicles to be located in a place where it is visible from a public place or public right-of-way.

Ordinance No. 05-15-06 House and Building Numbering – this ordinance makes it mandatory that all structures within the City limits shall be addressed and numbered. Numbers to be used shall be within four feet of the front and/or real door and be visible from the street. The numbers shall be of contrasting color compared to their background. It is preferred to use black reflective numbers on a white background. The numbers shall be a minimum of three inches tall and one and three quarter inches wide.

Ordinance No. 0-84-3 Weeds, Brush, Rubbish and Open Burning - this ordinance states that the City has height limits for plants, weeds and grass; prohibits the accumulation of any rubbish, brush or unsightly, objectionable or unsanitary matter; and prohibits any person to burn any brush, garbage, rubbish, weeds or other burnable material within the City limits unless such burning is done within an incinerator, pit or devise made or manufactured for such use and approved by the County Fire Marshal (unless we are under a burn ban, then no burning at all).

These are just a few of the ordinances your City Council, both past and present have adopted for your protection. Again, there are fines attached to all of these ranging from $5 to $1000 per day. Please help us to be a compliant city. If you would like to see these ordinances or have questions, please contact the Natalia Police Department. You may also submit a code concern below.
